A fuel tanker has exploded at Nkwanta Number two in the Eastern region injuring six people.

The explosion according to eye witness happened after the tanker driver lost control and veered off the road. The six injured include four fire service personnel, the driver of the truck and his mate.

The Eastern regional fire Service PRO, Samuel Martey in an interview disclosed that the Tanker was headed for Burkina Faso from Tema before the unfortunate incident happened.

He mentioned that the Service deployed its personnel and three fire engines to help fight the explosion but as the process of dousing the fire, there was another explosion which injured its personnel, the driver and the driver’s mate who have been sent to a nearby clinic for treatment.

He said what the firemen were doing after the fire was to apply foam concentrate to prevent additional fires from occurring adding that with fuel, it “vaporises and when it comes into contact with the ambient oxygen, it can easily catch flames again so we are trying to control that aspect.”
