Hwereso, Oct. 18, GNA - President John Kufuor on Saturday performed a sod cutting ceremony at Hwereso in the Ejisu-Juabeng district of the Ashanti Region for work to commence on the 24 kilometre Fume Sua-Duampompo section of the Kumasi-Accra Highway dualisation project. The project expected to cost GHC 55m was being funded by the Government of Ghana and will be executed by Messrs Sonitra Company with the Ghana Highway Authority as the implementing authority. President Kufuor said effort was being made to make the road from Accra to Kumasi a first class dual carriage, to ease human congestion and facilitate business transactions.
He said the government started the dualisation of the road from Accra to Apegya in the Eastern Region and that of Kumasi to Duampompo stressing that like a ladder the government will complete the project. He appealed to the people in the area to cooperate with the contractors and workers to ensure peace and early completion of the project.
On elections, President Kufuor asked the people to make the right choice of leader who will have the development of the nation at heart. He said foreign investors were willing to invest in the country and they will only do so in a peaceful and economic atmosphere with good government.
He appealed to the people to vote for the New Patriotic Party so that it would continue with the good foundation he has laid. Dr Richard Anane, Transportation Minister and Member of Parliament for Nhyieso said the project was aimed at improving upon safety, reducing traffic jam, promoting national cohesion and fostering regional cooperation.
He said the ministry will ensure that the project was done to a higher quality level.
Mr Emmanuel Owusu Ansah Ashanti Regional Minister expressed the hope that all stakeholders in the project will endeavour to avoid delays to ensure that the project was completed within schedule. He appealed to the people to see the project as a prelude to many other opportunities towards the improvement in the living standards.
