GCPP General Secretary resigns

Accra, Feb. 7, GNA - Mr John Amekah, General Secretary of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), has resigned from the party, headed by Mr Dan Lartey, with effect from last Friday.

In a statement issued in Accra on Monday, Mr Ameka said the direction and aspirations of the Party seemed to have changed "dramatically" from the time he joined the party in 1995.

"I strongly believe in the immediate unification of the Nkrumaist-related political parties as a necessary condition to position the united Nkrumaists as a real attractive political option for the people of Ghana," he said in his statement.

"In this regard, I will like to use this opportunity to advise all leaders of the splinter Nkrumaist political parties who are pretending to champion the cause and interest of the people as a cover for their entrenched selfish personal ambitions to reconsider their positions and to contribute meaningfully towards the unification of Nkrumaists through democratic practice and not the dictatorship of the individual leaders of these splinter parties," the statement said.
