GEIG to host 'I Am An Author' – A storytelling, writing & literacy workshop

Girls Education Initiative of Ghana Girls Education Initiative of Ghana

The Girls Education Initiative of Ghana (GEIG) was established on the mission to provide academic and financial support for girls, including applicants with special needs so they can access higher education and professional opportunities.

For two years and half, GEIG has been supporting twelve students in the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions of Ghana.

We partner with local and international institutions to offer our beneficiaries with unique opportunities.

Core to the academic support GEIG provides, is a three-week preparatory session to review and prepare the girls for the upcoming academic year.

Each year we introduce an enrichment activity that enhances the academic, mentoring, and professional development of the beneficiaries.

In our first vacation class session, the girls participated in drama and debate clubs. Last year, GEIG partnered with Lancaster University Ghana and offered Presentation Skills for the girls as well as Theater Works.

This year, GEIG is offering a Storytelling, Writing and Literacy Workshop dubbed “I Am An Author” in partnership with Butterfly Dreamz, Inc.

The workshop is open to girls and boys, aged 11 – 15, on August 8 – 11, 2016 which will be held in the Ashanti Region. In this 3-day workshop series, students will learn the fundamentals of storytelling and how to leverage those skills in writing a story of their own.

Final stories will be compiled in an e-book, featured on the Butterfly Dreamz website and shared with other young readers. This workshop is designed to develop students’ literacy and leadership skills while engaging them in a fun and creative way.

Lunch and snacks for participants will be provided during the session. Certificate of participation will be awarded at the end of the workshop.

Enroll your child, student or relative in the workshop and he/she stands a chance to win 100 USD in the writing competition on the final day.

Download the application form at http://www.girlsedgh.org/event/author/ Schools, nonprofits and other concerned organizations can also order hard copies of the e-book and use them for fundraisers or free giveaways.

Education is a transformative force. GEIG hopes to be at the forefront of providing quality and inclusive access to education for ALL girls in Ghana.
