Mr Micheal Nsowah, acting director-general of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has ordered the summary dismissal of the headteacher of Freeman Preparatory School, a private educational institution at Mim Brong Ahafo, for misconduct.
This followed reports that Mr J.B. Arthur, the headteacher, had expelled an-eight-year old primary three girl of the school, who was alleged to have been defiled by her class teacher.
Mr Nsowah told the paper that the GES District Office at Mim had been instructed to provide a replacement for the headteacher until the proprietor employs a new one.
He said that since the school was registered under the GES as a private school, it was expected to conform to GES rules and regulations pertaining to conduct, and the headteacher, as a professional teacher, should have known better when addressing issues of that magnitude.
Mr Nsowah said a report he received indicated that the headteacher took the decision without consulting the proprietor, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), the school management committee (SMC) and the parents of the girl.
?The headteacher claimed in the report that the girl was troublesome and that the teacher who was temporarily assigned to the class also said he would not accept the girl in the class,? he added. Meanwhile, the little girl has been re-admitted by the school.
This followed the outcome of a meeting held by the headteacher, two pastors of the Mim Methodist Church, the PTA chairman, the district director of CHRAJ, the district director of education, the proprietor and the girl?s father.
