GETFund saga: Domelevo acted unprofessionally, we’ll pursue criminal action - Lawyer

Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Domelevo Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Domelevo

Lawyer Gary Nimako Marfo, counsel for Deputy Agric Minister, Mr. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has maintained that his client’s name on the list of GETFund beneficiaries was an error that cannot be swept under the carpet.

He told Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm that the Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo failed in his audit work at the GETFund.

He explained to the host if the Auditor-General indeed received the details from the GETFund as she claimed, he should have conducted his work professionally before publishing the details.

Lawyer Nimako Marfo noted that if the publication of the name of the deputy minister was without malice, then the Auditor-General should have apologised and retracted.

"I maintain the point that the Auditor General failed to conduct a professional job.”

Mr. Daniel Domelevo has indicated that he owes the deputy minister no apology over the publication of Mr. Kennedy Osei Nyarko’s name.

The Auditor-General, in his response to the Deputy Minister, insisted that it is no fault of his or his office that the Deputy Minister has been mentioned in media reports to be a beneficiary of GETFund scholarship.

He explained that the list of beneficiaries was provided by the GETFund, thus, they are the only entity that can address his concerns.

Kennedy Nyarko, on Tuesday, wrote to the Auditor-General demanding an apology from the Auditor General for including his name in the list of beneficiaries of the GETFund scholarship based on a performance audit carried out on the institution from 2012 to 2018.

But responding to the request by the Deputy Minister, Daniel Domelevo stated, “please be informed that my office did not cause to be published “supposed list of top political figures” who are claimed to have benefitted from scholarship at the Ghana Education Trust Fund as alleged by you.”

Reacting to the issue, lawyer Nimako Marfo said he will call for a criminal probe into the matter.

According to him, the matter must be investigated to determine the truth behind the matter.

He disclosed some persons who applied for the scholarship but never got it, had their names in the list, a situation he described as unfortunate.
