Kumasi, Nov 3, GNA - The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) has voted GH¢4m towards the implementation of the Mathematics, Science and Technology Scholarship Scheme (MASTEES) for 2010/2011 academic year, an official letter has said. More than 8,000 needy but brilliant students pursuing programmes in these subject areas in tertiary, senior high schools, vocational, technical and institutions would benefit. The scheme was instituted in year 2008, to whip up enthusiasm in the Sciences and should have taken off, the following year. Its implementation was held back because of the backlog of arrears that needed to be tackled by the GETFund Secretariat. A letter signed by Mr G. K Scott, Chief Director, Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, (MEST), mentioned the beneficiary districts as Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Adalu-Anyigbe, Adansi North and South and others.
Beneficiary students pursing post graduate programmes receive GH¢1,500 per annum, while undergraduates take GH¢600, with those in polytechnics, vocational and technical schools paid GH¢400 and the rest GH¢300. 03 Nov. 10
