An Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare-Botwe is expected to deliver judgement in a defamation case brought against controversial lawmaker for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong this week.
Veteran Journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Junior sued the MP at the Court, seeking damages to the sum of GH¢25 million for defamation.
According to Mr Baako, the lawmaker defamed him on a radio talk show called Boiling Point on Oman FM and Adom Badwam talk show on Adom FM on separate dates.
Earlier, Mr Baako indicated that there were attempts initiated by Mr. Kennedy Agyapong’s lawyers for an out of court settlement but it appears that has been unsuccessful for which reason the court is expected to hear from other witnesses including Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation before giving its ruling.
Meanwhile, Kweku Baako insists that unless his terms are met there is no way he will agree to an out of court settlement as being proposed though he hints that it is not about money.
“Unless my terms are accepted it is as simple as that. The basic point is retract and apologize publicly. The key point is retraction and apology otherwise let the courts determine”, he said on Metro TV on weeks ago monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
“There have been attempts to do an out of court settlement at their initiative. Money is not the problem but I have already gone in the dock and given my testimony he came on to do his but it was truncated because the judge adjourned. There were other businesses she wanted to deal with but when we came back the next court day, they had come with an initiative seeking for an out of court settlement”, he added.
