GHANA'S IDN- FIRST TO DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE BROADBAND SYSTEM FOR AFRICA

The inability of the traditional communication system to provide high quality data access means the deployment of wireless data networks in Africa has experienced a significant increase. There is no doubt that a data wireless system presents a viable means of reaching the masses where the availability of communication infrastructure is either lacking or woefully inadequate in terms of performance and available throughput. The cost of deploying such networks has unfortunately been its own enemy, discouraging rapid expansion, and limiting scope to a few capable enterprises.

In light of this situation, Intercom Data Network - IDN, Ghana's leading Internet Solution Provider have announced the design and local manufacture of IDN SAVA SERIES, a unique integrated broadband system designed to provide fast wireless communication access at a very competitive price.

IDN SAVA SERIES, implements a DSS 802.11b compliant broadband wireless solution, together with a host of Internet applications that drastically reduce deployment costs for a business' Internet infrastructure. The IDN SAVA SERIES is designed specifically with the goal of providing a "total connectivity solution in a single box". It also represents the beginning of a quest for "zero connectivity downtime".

IDN SAVA SERIES comes packaged in a compact 1U setup box, with a simple LED front panel display indicating system and link activities. Web based management interface functionality simplifies setup and configuration.

As the first company to produce this product for Africa, IDN went through a vigorous research and development process, which took the company over one year. IDN SAVA SERIES was critically engineered with the fundamental focus of providing a cost effective solution, serving the needs of the end user.

The robust wireless broadband equipment was critically to designed serve the data communication needs of small businesses, corporate organizations and individual users who depend heavily on the Internet. However, this solution can also be used to address rural communication and telephony needs, unlike most existing broadband systems.

Using Broadband Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum technology (DSS11), the IDN SAVA SERIES provides seamless wireless connectivity for both internet/intranet applications, using a 2.4GHz unlicensed frequency band, 11 channel options, Data rates of 1,2,5.5 and 11MB/s. Other unique features Of SAVA are a dynamic transmission rate, roaming support, NAT capabilities, WEB encryption support, remote Web management, etc

Some of the advantages of the IDN SAVA SERIES include its low cost, no need for dedicated Internet Servers because SAVA includes both DNS service [active by default] and a proxy service. Other advantages include its web mail and dialup back up features as well as its caching and routing services. SAVA also provides a very flexible and customizable security firewall.

Mr. Francis Quartey, Chief Executive Officer of IDN said, " I am very elated about the introduction of a fully home grown solution and very optimistic that IDN SAVA SERIES is going to transform the Internet connectivity landscape in Ghana in particular and Africa as a whole."
