Accra, Aug 3, - Last year's runners-up Tema GHAPOHA Readers beat Okwawu United 1-0 in the final match of the ABC/FA knockout competition played at the Accra Sports Stadium to lift the trophy. Centre forward Isaac Botwe's 33rd minute goal enabled GHAPOHA to lift the trophy for the first time in the club's history. Colonel George Brock, Acting Chief Executive of the National Sports Council, and Nana Sam Brew Butler, Chairman of the Ghana Football Association, jointly presented the trophy to Captain Daniel Edusei of GHAPOHA. Each player of Ghapoha received a gold medal while runners-up Okwawu had silver. Okwawu kicked off after the pre-match inspections led by Col. Brock but it was Ghapoha who nearly found the net in the first minute. Okwawu dominated the greater part of the game but failed to translate their dominance into goals. GHAPOHA played a very tactical game and put only centre forward Isaac Botwe at the top. He beat an offside trap in the 33rd minute and raced with the ball into the penalty area. Botwe had an easy task of dribbling past on-rushing goalkeeper Daniel Kokoti before planting the ball into the net. GHAPOHA should have been a goal up in the 17th minute but central defender Michael Ofori-Mensah wasted a spot kick after Botwe had been fouled in Okwawu's "18". GHAPOHA nearly made it two in the 44th minute but midfielder Robert Amoako, with only Kokoti to beat, hit the side netting. The tempo of the game slackened midway in the second half as both sides ran out of gas and had to bring in fresh limps. Okwawu launched a last minute onslaught to redeem the goal but inside left Adolf Mensah's header in the 86th minute hit the crossbar and again wasted the rebound.
