The state has preferred fresh charges against the former Accounts and Finance Manager of Ghana International School (GIS), Frank Asirifi Bempong Junior, who allegedly stole 300,522.34 United States Dollars and 3,640.94 British Pounds belonging to his former employer. Bempong, 48, is now facing seven counts of falsification of accounts and stealing.
He is said to have raised a number of vouchers purported for the final payment of the school's networking and computers. He has pleaded not guilty before the court presided over by Mrs. Ivy Heward-Mills.
Bempong has been remanded into police custody to reappear on October 22. The state said the accused person between 1996 and 2000 misappropriated the said amounts and bolted to the United States of America. An arrest warrant was obtained from court on November 23, 2000, for his arrest but information gathered by the police indicated that the suspect had travelled to Washington.
Interpol Washington was alerted and the suspect was arrested and brought back to Ghana on August 2, 2009.
