GJA Defends TV Africa Crew

... Police?s conduct was harsh and unprofessional
... Crew was filming a "PRIVATE" hotel

The Ghana Journalists Association has defended the actions of a crew from TV Africa network who were arrested and detained for filming the controversial hotel complex near President Kufuor?s residence.

The crew was detained for about two hours by Police officers on guard duty in President Kufuor?s private residence at the Airport residential area in Accra.

The IGP has apologised for the action but the GJA says the TV crew?s action did not breach any of the association?s code of ethics.

GJA President Adjoa Yeboah-Afari told JOY News the Police?s conduct was harsh and unprofessional.

She said the Police could have just sent the crew away rather than arresting and detaining them for two hours.

Ms. Yeboah-Afari said the association is waiting for a report from the Police and the government on the matter before making any further comments on the matter.

The TV crew had gone to the "HIPC junction" to film a private hotel said to be owned by the President?s son but were arrested by security men on duty at the president?s private residence.
