GJA Unveils Plans For Release of Polls Result

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced a package of facilities to enhance the work of national and international journalists covering the General Election.

As part of preparations, the national executive of the GJA has sought assistance from Ghana Telecom in the form of payphones at the Ghana International Press Centre (GIPC) for the use of journalists who may wish to file their reports over the phone.

In addition, makeshift television studios and radio booths will be provided for electronic media companies that might be interested in broadcasting from the GIPC. This is done in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) of Germany, who are sponsoring the electoral coverage.

Ms Ajoa Yeboah-Afari, President of the GJA, announced this at a press briefing in Accra yesterday.

She said these measures were intended to contribute to the rapid dissemination of accurate reports of provisional and ratified election results.

Ms Yeboah-Afari said that as in the two previous General Elections, there would be a direct communication link between the Press Centre and the EC from December 7 until all the results were declared.
