GJA has no moral right to ask police to arrest Owusu Bempah - NPP Communicator fires

President of Ghana Journalists Association, Affail Monney President of Ghana Journalists Association, Affail Monney

A leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Patrick Kwarteng Sarpong has descended heavily on the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) that they don't have any moral right to ask the Ghana Police Service to arrest and prosecute Rev. Owusu Bempah for storming Accra-based Radio XYZ.

This comes after the GJA President, Roland Affail Monney issued a statement calling on the police to arrest Rev. Owusu Bempah for allegedly storming Radio XYZ to assault Mugabe Maaase of the station.

In the statement issued on March 15, Mr. Affail Monney, explained that the call to arrest the pastor was to deter him, and other like-minded persons from conducting themselves in similar manner in the future.

The statement said, the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, under Article 17(1), provides that no person is above the law and that constitutional provision must be upheld by reorienting the prophet as being a subject, not lord, of the law.

It further called on the Christian Council of Ghana, Ghana Catholic Secretariat, Ghana Pentecostal Council, Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council and other Christian bodies, as well as the clergy and Christendom in general to join the GJA in condemning the violent conduct of Owusu-Bempah, which has brought the name of their faith into contempt, disrepute and ridicule.

The Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, was reported to have stormed the radio station with gun-wielding men in search of broadcaster ‘Mugabe’.

According to reports, the raging team shoved the administrator of the station and ransacked the offices in search for the presenter.

But in a statement signed by the NPP's Communicator, Patrick Sarpong and copied to Daniel Kaku indicated that, the GJA is practising George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' system of which the GJA sees its members as super human being than others.

"They practice George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' system when some of their members find themselves in one predicament or the other. It is as though they see some of their members as more humans than those of us who are non-journalists", the statement noted.

The statement emphasized that "Mugabe Maase has been consistently taking people to the cleaners on his show on Radio XYZ. The GJA has had its eyes firmly closed all these times".

The statement bemoaned "Sarah Adwoa Safo, Ken Agyapong and Owusu Bempah are not less Ghanaians than Mugabe Maase. Any association worth its salt would have condemned Mugabe in no uncertain terms before asking for a retributive justice for its member".

The statement added "The GJA has no moral right to ask for the police to arrest Owusu Bempah until it condemns Mugabe Maase".

The statement therefore has urged the GJA to stop the selective manner of dealing with issues in Ghana and come out and condemn Mugabe Maaase for using Radio XYZ to insult some Ghanaians.

Below is the full statement

GJA IS PRACTICING THE ANIMAL FARM SYSTEM WITH ITS HANDLING OF THE MUGABE/OWUSU BEMPAH DEBACLE!

The leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association must sit up! The selectivity with which they tackle issues in this country is rather parabolic.

They practice George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' system when some of their members find themselves in one predicament or the other.

It is as though they see some of their members as more humans than those of us who are non-journalists.

Mugabe Maase has been consistently taking people to the cleaners on his show on Radio XYZ. The GJA has had its eyes firmly closed all these times.

On his show on Friday, Mugabe referred to Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah as a pig and an idiot. The GJA heard it but ignored it like a plague.

Mugabe described Hon. Ken Agyapong as an idiot but for some inexplicable reasons, our own GJA saw it prudent to zip their mouths.

To crown it all, Mugabe Maase vilified Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo on his show by labelling her as an idiot, and the GJA has been uncannily silent on his attacks on this innocent MP.

It is nauseating, to put it mildly, for the GJA to seek to idealize the vituperative comments Mugabe Maase made against these men and woman of high repute.

Sarah Adwoa Safo, Ken Agyapong and Owusu Bempah are not less Ghanaians than Mugabe Maase. Any association worth its salt would have condemned Mugabe in no uncertain terms before asking for a retributive justice for its member.

The GJA has no moral right to ask for the police to arrest Owusu Bempah until it condemns Mugabe Maase.

The GJA of yesterday can no longer be found on our media landscape. They better sit up!

Thanks

Signed!
