The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has donated items to over 1,000 households in Alajo, a suburb of Accra.
The donation, part of Dwumfour’s annual New Year gesture to support the less privileged and vulnerable in society, took place yesterday across several communities within the Alajo enclave.

The items donated to the residents of Alajo included bags of rice, boxes of canned tomato paste, gallons of cooking oil, crates of canned soft drinks, boxes of sardines, and more.

While addressing congregants of the Church of Pentecost-Alajo Central, where Mr. Dwumfour also fellowships, he stated that the purpose of the New Year donation was to bring smiles to the faces of residents in the Alajo community.

According to him, having been born and raised in Alajo, it was important for him to give back to the community where he grew up.

Mr. Dwumfour was accompanied by the Eastern Regional Chairman of the GJA, Maxwell Kudekor; Nsiah Poku, former Central Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA); and other key volunteers.

Last year, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour donated items worth over GH¢80,000 to two orphanages.

The beneficiary homes were the Faith Needy Children’s Home at Awutu Bewuanum and the Countryside Children’s Welfare Home at Awutu Bawjiase, both in the Central Region.

The donated items included boxes of Lufart antimalarials, cough syrups, paracetamol syrups, disinfectants, boxes of bathing soaps, toothpaste, and floor cleaners. Other items included boxes of milk, washing powder, detergents, toiletries, sachets of water, gallons of cooking oil (commonly known as "Kufuor Gallons"), drinks, bags of sugar, sanitary pads, rice, gari, maize, beans, and tomato paste.

Additionally, the GJA President presented cash donations of GH¢5,000 and GH¢6,200 to the two homes, respectively, to help cover other expenses such as water and electricity bills.

Mr. Dwumfour also personally shared cooked food and soft drinks with the children of the two orphanages, making their New Year celebration memorable.
