The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) will hold its second media convention in Kumasi on Thursday March 17, 2016.

The day’s programme is under the theme ‘Towards Free Fair and Undisputed 2016 Elections: The Role of the Media’.

The event would be the second of three conventions being sponsored by the US Embassy.

The first was held in Takoradi in January this year 2016.

The primary objective of the conventions is to bring media practitioners together to share experiences in election coverage and draw relevant lessons.

Participants would identify some of the practices on the media landscape, by both practitioners and members of the public that disturbed media operations and undermined media professionalism and public peace in the 2012 election.

It is also meant to identify potential trouble spots in the 2016 elections as far as media operations are concerned.

Participants will be expected to examine the issues that are raised at the convention and propose solutions to them.

Speakers at the Kumasi convention include National Media Commission (NMC) Chairman, Kwasi Gyan Apenteng, Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Charlotte Osei, Mr. Kwasi Jonah, Political Scientist and Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Democratic Governance (IDG), and Ms. Sara Veldhuizen Stealy, Press Attache at the U.S. Embassy.

According to a statement signed by the GJA President Affail Monney, it explained that the convention will be chaired by veteran Columnist of the Chronicle newspaper I.K. Gyasi.
