GNC of Chicago celebrates 59 years of Ghana's independence

Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago celebrates 59 years of Ghana's independence at the Ukrainian Cultural Center on March 5, 2016



(CHICAGO) --Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago in conjunction with 13 affiliate organizations and members of the Ghanaian community in Chicago will host the annual Ghana Independence celebrations on Saturday March 5, 2016 at the Ukrainian Cultural Center on 2247 west Chicago Avenue from 7:30pm to 1:30am. This event celebrates 59 years of Ghana's Independence from the British on March 6, 1957.
This year's independence celebrations will incorporate every institution in the Ghanaian community, including churches, mosques and US organizations which have partnered with Ghana and the Ghana National Council and those organizations and individuals undertaking projects in Ghana.
On Saturday March 5, 2016 an independent Ghana is being celebrated as the model for African progress and development, a poster child for economic success, anti-imperialism, stability and democracy in Africa; celebrated within the continent for being at the center of the liberation struggle and therefore holding a special place in pan-African history. In black sub-Saharan Africa, it was Ghana, under the leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah that emerged as a beacon of light across the continent showing others the way to freedom, showing that Ghana was more than capable to govern itself.
