GNFS personnel tasked to work harder

Ho, Sept. 27, GNA - Brigadier General John Bosco E. Guyiri, Acting Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), on Monday charged personnel of the Service to portray themselves in “very positive” manner.

He said the GNFS was the most well equip Service in the country and “For now, we are among the best in Africa in respect with equipment, so you should be proud and walk with bold chests”.

Brig. Gen. Guyiri said these during an interaction with personnel of the GNFS in the Volta Region, in Ho.

He said the Service was taking delivery of equipment from the USA, which should make the personnel proud.

Brig. Gen. Guriyi said the GNFS was also expecting fire fighting equipment from Belgium in November this year.

He said government was investing much in the Service and personnel to let their professional and personal conduct encourage the authorities to improve upon the working condition.

The Volta Regional Fire Officer, Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Alex Martels Hughes expressed worry about inadequate accommodation and equipment in the Region.

He said the personnel in the Region needed more equipment to enable them to handle fire situations effectively.

DCFO Hughes said the Region recorded 33 domestic and vehicular fire cases and 54 bushfires last year.

He said so far this year, there were 11 domestic fires, 12 buhsfires and four vehicular fires in the Region.
