The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Ltd has stated that the oil tanker which discharged diesel at the weekend was one of the emergency cargoes ordered by the TOR from CEPSA Refinery in Spain.
According to a press statement signed by Mr. William Parker, Chief Executive of TOR , GNPCs cargo ordered from Mobil is still at anchorage awaiting another vessel the 'Somport' from Abidjan to discharge its cargo of Jet Fuel before berthing on Tuesday May 21.
However , when Ghana National Petroleum Corporation was contacted it said that the vessel M/T Sea cross, carrying 30,500 metric tonnes of gas oil being supplied by the corporation to the Tema oil Refinery arrived at Tema Harbour on Friday afternoon .
According to GNPC this is the first of the oil cargoes that was contracted to be supplied by Mobil starting in the middle of April and that it is being supplied at the lower price GNPC negotiated .
In addition a vessel M/T Arbat carrying 32,00 metric tonnes of gasoil was also expected to have arrived yesterday May 19.
The cargo according to GNPC was sourced from Repsol , the Spanish national oil company, after GNPC realised that Mobil was failing in its contractual responsibilities .
The pricing of the cargo is also at the lower level that GNPC bid in the tender .
A further 5,000 metric tonnes gas oil which was one of the cargoes GNPC attempted to source from Nigeria after earlier rejecting Mobil's sub standard cargo has also arrived at Tema Harbour.
GNPC has therefore proposed to the TOR to have the vessel moved to Takoradi to discharge into storage there.
The corporation is however awaiting the TORs reaction to the proposal.
