Economic development advocacy group, Groupstand for Peace, Growth and Development, has called for a strategic shift in the deployment of National Service personnel into the agricultural sector to boost the country's food space, enhance export potential, and mitigate the unemployment crisis in the country, further boosting the country's economy.
In a news release signed by the Executive Director, Happy Agbenyenu, the group emphasized the need for government and stakeholders to assign National Service Personnel to the food sector to harness their energy and innovation and strengthen this key industry, adding that the initiative aligns with Ghana's national priorities of food security and economic sustainability.
According to the group, the government needs to "prioritize the allocation of national service personnel towards agriculture. This initiative requires a robust framework, including training programs, access to resources, and support systems to ensure the success of our young farmers". the group noted.
Acknowledging the positive impact of the initiative on the country, the group said, "we can unlock the potential of our national service personnel to transform Ghana’s agricultural landscape, alleviate unemployment, and create a sustainable economic future. Together, let us invest in our youth and in the future of Ghana".
They further added that the country has immense agricultural resources and should not be facing challenges in food production and exportation, tasking the government and stakeholders to prioritize the agricultural sector for the collective good of the country.
