GPHA Director General assures Tema Shipyard workers of a brighter future

Staff of the Tema Shipyard have been assured of a brighter future if they put in all their expertise and work hard to ensure that the once productive shipyard is brought back to life.

The Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Richard Anamoo made this assurance at his maiden interaction with workers and management of the Tema Shipyard.

Flanked by some management team of GPHA, Richard Anamoo in an inspirational speech which attracted applause from staff charged workers of Tema shipyard to put all hands on deck in order to transform the facility into a business enterprise.

He said with the right attitude from the workers, business can flourish and the Shipyard will attract the needed investment to make it vibrant.

“We all should rise up to the challenge of national demand so that we turn this company into a company that is working and we can be proud of,” he said.

He charged the staff of the yard to shun any lackadaisical attitude towards work and instead demonstrate professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

The Director General of GPHA warned that bad attitudes to work will not be tolerated by management and anyone found to be engaged in that would be made to face the full rigors of the law.

He said there was the need for them to shun demonstrations and agitations and rather contribute their efforts towards the development of the Tema shipyard.

“Let us tell the people of this country that we are not what they think we are, but we are just victims of circumstances and given that opportunity, we are ready to turn this place into a business enterprise,” he charged the workers.

Richard Anamoo assured workers of the Tema Shipyard security of the jobs adding that no worker would be laid off.

“We are not here to lay off workers, we are here to transform the Tema Shipyard,” he averred.

He reminded the staff of the dilapidated state of the facility, stressing that it is only when the facility is revived to generate revenue that the workers can be rewarded.

Sending a peaceful message to the staff, the GPHA Director General entreated them to overlook their differences and cultivate the habit of forgiveness.

He promised staff of the facility that there will be training programs for them so as to build their capacity and also improve the know-how.

Some of the workers commended expressed optimistic that GPHA and its management have what it takes to revive the Tema Yard.

They pledged their unflinching support to Richard Anamoo and his management team.

“I see the spirit of Kwame Nkrumah in the Director General. I am highly impressed to see a man full of vision and Director General, I can assure you fear not we will deliver for you. We only needed someone with vision so that we can go with him and we thank God that he has brought you to us,” one of the staff of Tema Shipyard stated.
