The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has presented 2,000 mathematics textbooks worth GH¢10,000.00 to 20 selected Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Northern, Upper East and the Upper West Regions.
The beneficiaries include Pong-Tamale SHS, Savelugu SHS, Gambaga Girls SHS, and Northern School of Business, Walewale SHS/Technical, Tamale Girls, Nalerigu SHS, Yendi SHS, Business SHS, St. Bernadette Technical Institute.
The rest are Sandema SHS, Bolgatanga Girls SHS Bongo SHS Awe SHS/Technical, Paga Community Day SHS, Hilla LImann SHS, T l Ahmadiyya SHS, Kanton SHS, Islamic SHS and Birifoh SHS.
Mrs Nana Esi Quansah-Soderberg, Deputy Market and Corporate Affairs Manager and Executive Assistant to the Director General, said the goal was to assist enhance the teaching and learning of Mathematics.
The selection of the schools was based on their peculiar needs.
The GPHA, she added, was determined to support students to excel in core mathematics in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The poor performance of students in mathematics could not continue.
She encouraged students to work hard on their books - to pass their examination and live their academic dreams.
Mr Adam Gunu, Assistant Headmaster of the Tamale Girls SHS, on behalf of the beneficiaries, said they were grateful to the GPHA for the donation.
He called for other organizations to find space to contribute to efforts at creating the right environment for effective academic work in schools.
