Accra, March 24, GNA - The Neoplan Branch Number Four of the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) on Wednesday issued a Cheque for 13.425 million cedis to the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) to defray the cost of repairs of a 45-seater air-conditioned bus that got damaged during a clash between the two organisations two weeks ago.
Mr Ben Amoabeng Peprah, Greater-Accra Regional Chairman of PROTOA received the Cheque on behalf of the owner of the vehicle, Mr Kofi Nyame.
The two groups also agreed to settle the case, which was pending at an Accra Circuit Court out of court and to live in peace with each other.
These came to light at a meeting organized by the National Executives of the two groups to find ways of solving the disputes between them and was chaired by Mr Otchere-Darko Ababio, Director in charge of Management Services at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
On Wednesday, March 10, a clash broke between the two groups over loading rights at the Neoplan Station in which the windscreen and side glasses of the bus the bus were damaged.
Eleven people arrested during the clash, were granted bail when they appeared before the Court. They were scheduled to reappear today, March 25.
In a joint communiqu=E9 issued by the two groups, they agreed that the damaged vehicle when repaired, could load at any of the Union's loading parks of the Owner's choice.
They also agreed to work assiduously to achieve mutual co-operation and respect for each other, to co-exist peacefully at all lorry parks and loading points in the country and to support all efforts being made to improve conditions in the transport sector by the Government.
Mr Peprah and Mr Marcus K. Agbeyome, Greater-Accra Regional Secretary of PROTOA, signed on behalf of their organisation while Mr Abdul B.Y. Flashman, GPRTU Deputy General Secretary In-Charge of Operations and Mr Kwabena Badu, Chairman Neoplan Branch Number Four of the GPRTU signed for their Union.
Also present at the meeting were Nana Atekoasa Danso Agyeman I; First Vice Chairman of PROTOA; Mr Michael A. Appiah, National Chairman, PROTOA; Mr Stephen K. Okudzeto, National General Secretary, GPRTU and Alhaji E.A. Tetteh, Greater Accra Regional Chairman, GPRTU.
