The Ghana Revenue Authority has organised an educational and sensitisation programme on Tax Identification Number (TIN) for traditional caterers and drinking bar operators in the Techiman Municipality.

Mr Joseph Asare, the Area Manager of the Techiman Small Tax Office (STO), who was the main facilitator at the event, outlined some of the benefits of the TIN as the opportunity to acquire a passport and access legal services amongst others.

He said it is important for taxpayers to honestly honour their tax obligations because it forms a major component of the nation’s internally-generated fund which is a critical source of government’s funding for socio-economic development.

Mr Asare appealed to participants to pay the right amount of taxes and urged them to visit the offices of the GRA to acquire their TINs because officials of the Authority were willing to address their individual concerns.

He assured the participants that they could channel any other grievance they might have through their executive members since the Authority would be meeting them.

Mr Charles Kwarteng Acheampong, the Techiman Municipal Environmental Health Officer, expressed worry about the poor and unhygienic manner in the handling of food by some food vendors in the country.

He said due to rapid urbanization and economic pressures many have resorted to buying food from food vendors, hence the need for them to observe environmental and personal hygiene, besides applying the necessary food safety measures.
