Member of Parliament for the Nabdam Constituency in the Upper East Region, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, has approached former President John Mahama with a complaint about how poverty is deeply affecting his constituency.

When the flag bearer of the NDC arrived in Pelungu as part of his campaign tour of the Upper East Region, the lawmaker seized the opportunity to discuss the multidimensional poverty index report by the Ghana Statistical Service.

The report revealed that the Nabdam District is the poorest district in Ghana, with a multidimensional poverty rate of 68.6%. This is about 11 times higher than the national rate of 24.3%.

To the lawmaker, this is alarming and very concerning.

When he mounted the podium to address the crowd that had gathered to welcome the flag bearer, Dr. Nawaane exclaimed, “The eight years of the Akufo-Addo–Bawumia-led government have left the people of Nabdam impoverished. We are the poorest district in the entire country, and I am deeply disturbed by this discovery.”

“As if that is not enough, food prices are very high, making it difficult for our people to grow their businesses and take care of their families. The roads are also in a deplorable state, making it hard for our farmers to attract buyers from outside the district. The Pelungu market is also inaccessible because of the poor road conditions. This is what the chiefs and people of the Nabdam area are facing,” Dr. Nawaane narrated.

With great confidence, he urged the people to give John Mahama the mandate on December 7 so he can implement his 24-hour economy agenda.

Dr. Nawaane mentioned that the Women Development Bank, the Housing Scheme for income earners, and other policies of John Mahama would transform and improve the lives of the people.

He added, “Your Excellency, the Nabdam people cannot wait for December 7 so that they can vote massively for you to come and address the situation. We know you can do it, and we will trust you with our votes. When you return to power, don’t forget about us.”
