GUPS asks NUGS to bring to congress the issue of paying Reprographic Rights

Accra, July 14, GNA - The Ghana Union of Professional Students (GUPS) on Thursday asked the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) to bring the issue of paying reprographic rights to authors to congress for a firm decision to be taken.

A statement signed in Accra by Mr Norvan Acquah-Hayford, National President of GUPS, also demanded that resource persons be brought from the Attorney -General's Department and the Office of Copyright Ghana to clarify some sections of the Copyright Act 2005 (Act 690). The statement said this had come about as a result of a seminar held on July 2 on reprographic rights to authors. The issue, the statement noted, was referred to the National Executive Council, which met and deliberated on the issues in line with the legal implications of the Copy Right Act. GUPS said it was making those demands "as a bloc with the largest constituents in NUGS".

"Failure or any attempt not to meet our demand will have us advice ourselves appropriately", the statement said. 14 July 05
