THE Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has once again been fingered in circumstances leading to the premature death of one of the suspects implicated in the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Agenda (GYEEDA) investigations.
The financial fraud and investigative body is being accused of contributing to the death of Mr. Peter Addison Sarpong, former accountant of GYEEDA in the Agona District of the Ashanti.
The late Addison, a hypertensive patient, was said to have been detained for almost 10 hours by EOCO and denied access to his medication, when he appeared before the body, a situation which was said to have aggravated his medical condition, leading to his eventual death.
Relatives of the late GYEEDA Accountant are pointing accusing fingers at officials of EOCO and the former National Coordinator of the programme, Mr. Abuga Pele, whom they accused of contributing to the sudden death of their son.
Reports available to The Chronicle indicate that late Addison was once again billed to appear before the EOCO last week Wednesday but met his untimely death on Monday after complaining of stress.
He was said to be on strict medication, but information to the paper indicates that when he appeared before the body two weeks ago he could not have access to his regular drugs and this according to the family, exacerbated his condition, leading to his sudden demise.
The family spokesperson, Kofi Sarpong, told a local radio station last week that the family is not treating the death of their son as a natural one as it believes the investigative body might have contributed to the unfortunate incident.
The Spokesperson says the agony of their late son, whom they believe is innocent, started a year ago when the then National Coordinator, Hon. Abuga Pele, unjustifiably interdicted him. Kofi Sarpong said the late Addison, who only acted on instructions of one Osborne Djani, to prepare letters and cheques, was subjected to months of emotional trauma by the Abuga Pele-led administration with the treatment by EOCO being the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
“How can someone who only acted on instructions of his boss be subjected to such inhumane treatment; why should our son suffer for other people’s mistake, we leave it to God Almighty to judge them,” Kofi Sarpong stated amidst sobbing during an interview with Happy FM in Accra via Anigye in Kumasi.
Meanwhile, another staff of GYEEDA was also said to have lost his wife, bringing to two the number of suspects who have lost their lives in just seven days. The death of the Second Deputy National Coordinator in charge of Finance, Patrick Gyato, was also announced on Wednesday.
