GaDangme International condem attack on shrine

The GaDangme International, Inc. (GDI), an umbrella organization of GaDangme Associations in North America strongly condemns the attack by the Greater Accra Police on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 on the Sakumo Wulomo Shrine, One of the holy sites of the Ga State.

The GDI is also calling on Ghanaians and the international community to also condemn this unprovoked and senseless attack.

The GDI wants to advise the Greater Accra Police in particular and the Ghana Government in general that whoever becomes the Mantse or king of the Gas is the sole responsibility of Gas. GaDangmes are very capable of handling their own affairs.

The GDI is deeply concerned with the apparent disregard, insensitivity and disrespect of the GaDangme people by the government.

The GDI fully supports, Nuumo Ogbame, the Sakumo Wulomo for the wonderful job he is doing in upholding the cultural and traditional practices of our people.

In recognition of the dynamic role being played by some regional chiefs in Ghana by initiating useful projects to improve the plight of their people, the GDI looks forward to a speedy resolution to this impasse so we can direct our energies and attention helping our people.

The GDI looks forward to establishing a good working relationship with any new Ga Mantse (to be appointed through the proper traditional process of selecting the heir to the GA State stool) to address the burning issues bedeviling the people.

Sincerely,

GDI Secretariat
