Concerned Small Scale Miners Association in Konongo Odumasi in the Ashanti Region has expressed their disappointment in the Akufo- Addo’s government for clamping down on small scale mining in the country.

President Nana Addo after the December 2016 elections imposed a ban on illegal mining activities famously called ‘Galamsey’.

Over the years, the activities of the ‘galamseyers’ have caused severe pollution to the country’s water bodies and destroyed acres of farmlands.

President Nana Addo during 2016 elections campaign assured the Small Scale Miners that his government will not collapse their job saying NDC party members were only embarking on propaganda to thwart his chances of becoming a President.

The Organizer for Concerned Small Scale Miners Association in Konongo Odumasi Amidu Yusiff speaking in an exclusive interview with Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo said President Akufo-Addo has broken the heart of the small scale miners by breaking a campaign he promised them prior to the 2016 General Election.

According to him, President Nana Addo has disappointed members of the small scale miners who vote massively for him during the December 2016 elections.

He said, “During the 2016 elections then President John Mahama told us that Nana Akufo- Addo and his NPP party will collapse small scale mining activities but Nana Akufo-Addo met us and assured us that if he won power he would dialogue with us to find a lasting solution to the ‘Galamsey’ menace but now he has collapsed our work”.

Amidu Yusiff however described former President John Mahama as “Honest Man” for telling them the truth saying President Nana Addo deceived them with juicy campaign message.

“President has failed to honour his promise but has gone ahead to issue a directive to his Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to use the military and the police to intimate, harass and seize our ‘Galamsey’ equipment without meeting us for a dialogue. Former President Mahama should forgive us for voting against him, despite his truth. Nana Addo deceived us with sweet words,” he added
