The Assembly member for the Bantama electoral area in the Ashanti region, Kwaku Ofori, has revealed that gang rape is rife among the youth in the community.
According to him, the young boys in the area often gang rape girls in the neighbourhood and several attempts by him to stop the practice has been met with little or no support from the security agencies and parents.
His comments come on the back of three boys who have been arrested by the Bantama Police for gang raping a young woman and filming the ordeal.
The Police is still hunting for four other boys.
Speaking to Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice, Mr. Ofori expressed delight that the bad deeds of the boys in Bantama has caught public attention.
“Gang rape happens often in Bantama…In fact I have done everything possible to ensure that the boys who gang rape girls are caught but I have not been successful.
“But today this has become public by God’s grace…I am sure God wants the world to know what has been happening in Bantama…so in a way I am happy this has happened,” Mr. Ofori said.
The video has sparked massive outrage in the country with majority of Ghanaians calling on the Police to ensure that the boys are prosecuted.
The about five minutes video shows an underage girl pinned to a mattress by one of her abusers while his accomplices take turns to perform sexual acts on her.
The victim who was resisting her attackers all-through the ordeal was restrained from escaping by her abusers who appeared to be having fun with the torture.
