‘Gangster’ MP Runs To London

...After Manhyia Shooting Incidence

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia in Kumasi, who shot and wounded a 24-year-old man, during a house-to-house campaign at Ashtown in his Constituency, has left the country unceremoniously.

Dr. Mathew Poku Prempeh alias Napo, left Ghana last Tuesday to Mauritius as word went round that the police were to pick him up over the shooting incident which has left Marfuss Jibrine, an NDC sympathizer bedridden at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, who left town on Emirate Airlines, according to family sources, was on his way to London to shake of the heat his violent act generated in the Kumasi metropolis.

He is expected to spend the Christmas in London.

Napo was arrested and granted bail after the incident. The gun used in shooting Marfuss Jibrine, is said to belong to the MP.

Dr. Prempeh is reported to have thrown it to the shooter during a confrontation with Marfuss Jibrine, who was also inflicted with machetes wounds by the assailants in the company of the MP.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Yusif Tanko, one Aminu was later arrested in connection with the shooting incident.

He told The Herald, last week, that the said Aminu has been remanded in prison custody, pending investigations.

According to the PRO, no fresh arrests have been made in connection with the shooting at the Ashanti New Town in Kumasi, so far.
