The last ordinary meeting of the Wenchi District Assembly (WDA) held at Wenchi, ended in confusion over Asiedu Nketia's contract awarded to a company called 'J. L. Adom' at his hometown, Seikwa, in the Wenchi district.
The confusion broke out, after an audit report had been read to the members of the assembly indicating that the Honourable MP for Wenchi West, Nketia, also known as 'General Mosquito,' had allegedly awarded a contract without passing it through the district tender board for approval during the NDC regime.
The contracting firm, J. L. Adom Limited of Techiman, has threatened to take legal action against the assembly for non-payment of the contract sum for the job done.
The reports from the WDA indicate that Hon. Nketia paid only ?9 million out of the total amount of ?60.2 million.
The Presiding Member (PM), Honourable Kofi Dwomo, at a point vacated his seat in protest against the member for Wangaraline, Hon. Baba Musa's statement that he (the PM) had taken sides with Hon. Nketia.
The assembly proceeded to put a motion on the floor: either to allow the MP for Wenchi West to appear before a committee or appear before the assembly in general.
The PM declined that motion and this prompted Hon. Musa to remark that the PM had a bias for the MP.
Later, when the assembly resumed sitting, Hon. Musa apologised to the PM and also withdrew his statement but maintained that Hon. Nketia, also former Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, should be allowed to appear before the assembly or a special committee over the questionable contract awarded without the knowledge of the assembly.
The House finally agreed to invite Hon. Nketia to appear before a special five-member committee set up to investigate the deal.
The committee has two months to submit its report to the assembly.
It was gathered that during the electioneering campaign of 2000, "General Mosquito" in his efforts to create a good image awarded the contract.
The DCE for Wenchi at the time was Madam Cecilia Gyamfua.
