Winneba (C/R), Nov. 24, GNA - A 64-year old German philanthropist, Mr. Horst Waskow, on Wednesday donated teaching materials, sporting equipment and other educational facilities worth 9.3 million cedis to the Winneba branch of the Seventh Day Adventist Proprietary School at a ceremony at Winneba.

Last year. Mr Waskow presented books, jerseys and desks valued at 12.5 million cedis towards the effective running of the school. Speaking at the function, Mr Waskow said the donation is in response to appeal made by the authorities of the school three years ago. He expressed the hope that the gifts would encourage both the teachers and pupils of the school to offer their best towards the promotion of basic education in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District.

Mr Waskow underscored the important role education plays in the socio-economic advancement of every nation, and stressed the need for the authorities of the school to ensure effective maintenance and utilization of the materials.

He was however, happy that the facilities he donated last year were in good shape and further expressed his optimism that the authorities of the school would maintain the spirit and attitude.

Elder Michael Appiah-Baffoe, Proprietor of the school, the headmaster, Mr K.E. Keelson, and Pastor Zac Asuboni, Local Manager of Seventh Day Adventist schools in the area, jointly expressed their deepest appreciation to Mr Waskow and his family members in Germany who collectively contributed to this laudable gesture, and promised to make good use of the equipment.
