Klottey Korle MP, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has charged her constituents to plant more trees in an effort to save the environment.

Speaking at a tree planting exercise in her constituency with pupils of Osu-Doku Circuit 30 School during a pre-march past to commemorate Ghana’s Independence Day celebration on Monday, 6 March, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings said the exercise was the first in a series of tree planting exercises to be undertaken in the constituency.

“Today being for us the pre-6th March anniversary which marks the 60th post-independence anniversary for our beloved Ghana, we need to ask ourselves how far we’ve come and whether we are happy with where we are and what we can do to make things better. Today, as part of this celebration, we are going to be planting some trees. And there is a saying that those who plant trees today are not the ones who sit under the shade that the tree produces. A lot of the big trees you see here were planted long before most of you were born and that is the beauty of planting a seed and looking after it. It means that you are taking care of future generations,” she stated.

“When you talk of interconnectedness, then it means that you have a choice, because you realise that you don’t live in isolation. Each one of us is connected to the other. Each one of us is connected to the environment, and if our environment is sick, we will be sick as well. So, young children, this is important for you. This tree planting exercise is the beginning of what we are going to be doing on a continuous basis in this constituency, which is to care for our environment to make sure that we are leaving it better than we came to meet it.”
