The Ghana Armed Forces have dismissed claims of alleged tension between the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Bismarck Onwona.
In a statement dated August 2, 2024, and signed by the Director General of Public Relations, Brigadier General Aggrey-Quarshie, the security institution clarified that there is no discord between the mentioned individuals, debunking any speculations of this nature.
The military further urged the public to disregard such claims and consider them as false.
The statement from the Ghana Armed Forces comes in response to a media publication by The Herald newspaper alleging tensions within senior members of the force.
“GAF wishes to assure all ranks and the public that there is cordial relationship amongst the military high command. As such, we entreat all and sundry to disregard the publication and treat it with the contempt it deserves," parts of the statement read.
According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the media should avoid spreading misinformation that could potentially disrupt public peace.
