The Ghana Army has announced that it will be hosting the 2nd edition of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEC) from Wednesday, August 28, 2024, to Thursday, August 29, 2024, in Accra.

IDEC is a biennial platform for the Ghana Armed Forces aimed at bringing together relevant global players from the defence and security space to discuss issues of interest as well as showcase cutting-edge military technology.

The maiden edition of the exhibition and conference was held in 2022 and was organised by the Ghana Navy in partnership with Great Minds Events Management Limited.

Addressing the media in Accra on Thursday, August 22, 2024, the Deputy Chief Staff Officer, in charge of plans and policy at the Army headquarters, Brigadier General Yehuza Salifu, announced that the army would be the lead organiser for this year's event and would be partnered by Great Minds and their local partners, Gulf of Guinea Maritime Institute.

He said that the event would bring leading security experts from across the world to Ghana to discuss security issues as well as share advancements in the fight against global threats to peace.

"The two-day event will be under the theme 'Enhancing Regional Mechanisms for Addressing Contemporary Security Challenges in Africa'. The overarching objectives of IDEC 24 are to strengthen international collaboration, to provide a platform to discuss topical issues of defence and security and to showcase cutting-edge technological solutions in the defence and security industry.

"The two-day event will assemble top-notch experts from military establishments across the globe, law enforcement and security agencies, academia, international public organisations, and the defence industry. The conference sessions will deliberate on derivative topics from the theme, including violent extremism and terrorism in West Africa, the role of regional bodies in addressing contemporary threats, interagency cooperation, and unmanned aerial vehicles or drones,” he said.

He added that the technology exhibition as part of the two-day event offers the opportunity for defence industry players to discuss and display the latest technology in the area.

The Chief Staff Officer also announced that the 2024 IDEC would be graced by the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Ministers for Defence and National Security, and other ministers of state.

“Overall, IDEC 24 will assemble over 500 delegates, including 20 chiefs of the army staff from across the African continent and beyond, 27 subject matter experts as speakers, 23 sponsors and exhibitors, and 15 media partners,” he added.
