Ghana Bible Society to distribute 1 million Bibles to JHS students

Accra, Aug. 1, GNA - The Ghana Bible Society (GBS) is to distribute on= e million (1,000,000) Bibles to students in all public Junior High Schools (JHS) in the country by the year 2012. So far the GBS has distributed eight hundred and twenty three thousand (823,000) Bibles to students since 2007.

The move is to inculcate the word of God into school children to grow and become responsible and God-fearing adults in whatever capacity they wil= l serve in various sectors of the economy, to ensure a holistic society and speed up national development.

The General Secretary of the GBS, The Rev. Erasmus Odonkor announced this at the maiden fund-raising concert of the GBS in collaboration with Joyful Way Incorporated at the Tesano Baptist Church in the Greater Accra Region. The occasion formed part of measures to generate funds from individual= s and corporate organizations to resource the society so that it can buy the remaining 177 Bibles for the students by the year 2012. He said the GBS had decided to join in Ghana's golden jubilee anniversary celebration by reaching out to JHS students with the word of God.

The Rev Odonkor said if Christians could catch the young ones through the Bible, Ghana would be a better place to live where lives would be transformed for rapid socio-economic development.

He therefore asked individuals and corporate bodies to donate generously to the society so as to afford them the opportunity to purchase the Bibles for onward distribution to the students.

Later in an interview, the Promotion and Resource Mobilization Manager of the GBS, Mrs. Kafui Agormeda-Tetteh urged Christians to read the Bible a= t all times since it was the only weapon which could fight the devil and transform the lives of people. She observed that modern Christians did not read the Bible but ran to it in times of difficulty and said that attitude should be discouraged. Mrs Agormeda-Tetteh said so far the response from students on the Bibl= e was overwhelming as most of them had embraced the gesture.

She urged Christians to evangelize through the sharing of the Bible with non-believers so that Ghana would be saturated with the word of God fo= r His Kingdom to be established here on earth.
