Ghana Book Publishers Association to deepen partnership with Ghana Library Authority

The Ghana Book Publishers Association (GBPA), led by its President Mr Elliot Agyare has called for renewed and deepened partnership with Ghana Library Authority to collectively address systematic issues affecting the progress of both institutions.

Mr Agyare made the call during a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer (Ag) of Ghana Library Authority, Hayford Siaw.

The President intimated on the critical role of the Ghana Library Authority in the development of Ghana, and though, they are aware of some of the challenges, the association is confident of a turnaround under the new leadership.

"The Ghana Library Authority with its network of libraries and professionals, is the right organization to lead the promotion of reading and the GBPA supports the declaration of 2019 as the Year of Reading," Mr Agyare added.

Mr Siaw on his part assured the Association of GhLA’s readiness to collaborate with GBPA to increase local book collections in our libraries in Ghana.

"To ensure systematic acquisition process, we have introduced an Acquisition and Distribution Unit which will work closely with all publishers to ensure, books conform to approved standards and qualifies to be on the shelves," He stated.

"Over the past few months, we have deployed and currently testing the automation system in compilation of the Ghana National Bibliography. This provides a detailed list of all books and other published materials in Ghana. This will inform acquisition decisions of all special, school and academic libraries in Ghana and provide business for GBPA members" He narrated.

Both parties agreed to work together on the annual Ghana International Book Fair and introduce the National Reading Conference to develop a vibrant ecosystem.
