The Atlanta Ghana @50 committee, in conjunction with the ethnic associations and religious organizations are organizing a Ghana Community Day to be held on Saturday October 13, 2007 as part of the yearlong celebration of Ghana’s golden jubilee. The theme for this event is “Building a stronger and healthy community through economic development”. Several activities have been planned including a free business exposition, job and health fair, which will be held at the Global Mall, 5675 Jimmy Carter Blvd in Norcross from 11 am to 3 pm. According to Mr. Reuben Darku, “this event will afford us the opportunity to showcase Ghanaian businesses in the metro area as well as provide job seekers within the Ghanaian community the opportunity to meet prospective employers”. The health fair to be held in conjunction with the business expo will provide free health screening.
A fundraising dance will be held in the evening to officially launch the Ghana House project as well as raise funds for the Northern Region flood relief fund. The Ghana House fundraiser will facilitate the acquisition of a facility to serve as a community center for the Ghanaian community in Atlanta. The special guest of honor for this event will be His Excellency Dr. Kwame Bawuah–Edusei, Ghana Ambassador to the US.
