The Ghana Herbal Association has threatened to stage a nationwide demonstration against the government and some chiefs if they fail to take immediate action to stop illegal mining activities, also known as galamsey.
According to a member of the association, Dr Samuel Amegashie the association, which represents traditional herbalists and practitioners, the government’s inaction has led to the destruction of their sources of medicinal plants and herbs. This the association says is affecting their livelihoods and that of Ghanaians since they derive their products from streams and plants.
He added that their efforts at engaging the government and some chiefs has yielded no result and they do not have any other choice than to register their displeasure through a demonstration.
“We want the government to take concrete steps to stop galamsey and restore the environment or else they will hear from us”, he noted.
