Ghana Is Becoming A One-party State - Ken Kuranchie

The Editor in-Chief of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Mr. Ken Kuranchie has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of attempting to turn Ghana into one-party state.

According to Ken Kuranchie, the NDC is using the oil resources to abuse the minds of stakeholders supervising the nation’s electoral processes in their favour.

He said, “We are already on our way to the creation of a one party state because if we decide that the way we ought to go as a nation is by the ballot box, if you vote, your vote and my vote must count for the value of one vote.”

“So if the party in power decides that they should stay in power by hook or crook and that they will not allow the value of your vote to count as the value of one vote and try to use an orthodox method to stay in power, then we are heading towards the establishment of one party state,” Ken charged.

He further argued that unless the credibility of the 2012 elections is established by the Supreme Court, the ruling NDC will always use state resources to subvert the will of the electorate in subsequent elections.

“We have to take a stand now and ensure that the credibility of the 2012 elections is established, unless this is done, let’s go and sleep, the NDC will again win 2016 and subsequent elections because they have the oil resources, they have the security and everything required to stay in power for long.”

Ken Kuranchie was speaking on Citi Fm’s News Analysis programme, the Big Issue where he inspired Ghanaians to resist any dictatorial tendencies likely to ruin the nation’s democracy.

On the ministerial appointments, he opined that President John Mahama is suffering from indecision in that regard.

He described as needless the appointments of the “three wise men”, Hon. Alban Bagbin, Hon. E.T Mensah and Hon. Cletus Avoka to oversee the execution of his [President Mahama] most important priority projects codenamed, ‘Presidential Priority Projects (PPP).’

“There is a certain level of confusion in the mind of the President because he has come out with certain strange designations that are likely to create confusion at the various ministries and I get the impression that he is basically creating jobs for the boys and girls.”
