The Ghana Mine Workers’ Union, under the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has made a direct appeal to Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to intervene in their ongoing legal dispute with Sunon Asogli, seeking a swift resolution to the case.

 The union is fighting for the reinstatement of three unionized workers who were dismissed by the company in 2023 after they joined the TUC—a move the union argues is a clear violation of the workers' rights.

Abdul Moomin Gbana, General Secretary of the Mine Workers’ Union, voiced his frustration over the delays in court proceedings and expressed concern that the legal process could be drawn out further.

He urged the Chief Justice to ensure that the case receives the urgent attention it deserves.

"You know how protracted sometimes cases in court can be, but you and I know that the matter involving our three union leaders at Sunon Asogli took the national stage and attracted a lot of national attention," citinewsroom.com reports.

Gbana accused Sunon Asogli and its legal team of engaging in "legal gymnastics" to stall the proceedings, which he fears could lead to an extended trial.

Given the national significance of the case, he emphasized the importance of a timely resolution.

"We envisage a protraction of this case, which is why we believe the Chief Justice’s intervention is necessary. Her involvement would help ensure an expeditious trial," Gbana added.
