Following the appointment of Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in charge of Operations, the Ghana Police and Dampare have become top trends on X, previously known as Twitter.

A statement issued on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, announced the appointment, made after the Police Council advised the president.

“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations. This appointment follows the advice of the Police Council at its meeting on Wednesday, 17th July 2024, where COP Yohuno's exceptional credentials and dedication to duty were recognized.

“COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno is a distinguished law enforcement officer with a career spanning over three decades, holding various key positions within the Ghana Police Service,” the statement read.

However, reactions to this development have been mixed, with many questioning the reasoning behind the appointment.

“When did Ghana have a Deputy IGP if not tactics to make Dampare useless and irrelevant to carry out their usual activities before, during, and after the election?” Kojo Dynamic shared.

“Every time you see the Police V8 with the number plate GP-2, that's Tetteh Yohuno. He's been the deputy IGP all this time, so what's the reason for this change? Will they now have deputy IGPs for Finance, Administration, etc?” A-Jay also shared.

“The NPP is gradually executing their plans to rig the elections. Since when did Ghana have a Deputy IGP with a specific responsibility? Remember Bugri Naabu and that leaked tape involving a police officer. They know Dampare won't assist them in this election. NPP never again,” Kwame Odame commented.
