Ghana Police Service begins recruitment

Koforidua, Feb. 8, GNA-The Ghana Police Service on Monday began recruitment of personnel in Koforidua, targeting professionals.

More than 7,000 professionals, including vehicle and motor drivers, tailors, hairdressers, bands men, communication and radio operators, estate managers, public relations practitioners, doctors, nurses, and laboratory technicians would be recruited in the five-day exercise.

A police enlistment team would take applicants through physical body check, checking of heights and verification of relevant documents.

Briefing newsmen at Koforidua on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police (COP) Hamidu Mahama, Director General in charge of Human Resource, said due to the upcoming elections, the Inspector General of Police has authorized the recruitment of more personnel into the service.

COP Mahama stressed that the recruits would help in monitoring the 2012 Election to ensure violent-free polls.

He said the initiative also formed part of a five-year Strategic National Policing Plan to upgrade the performance of the Service to a world-class standards.

COP Mahama said that applicants would be shortlisted to 4,000 nationwide, and that a complaint unit of the Service had been set for applicants, who might feel that they are not treated fairly, to send their grievances.
