The Ghana Police Service is undergoing major transformation agenda to be among the top 10 police services in the world by 2021.

Mr Prosper Kwame Agblor, Director General, Police Welfare said the agenda was being driven by the vision of becoming a world class Police Service.

He said this at the passing-out ceremony of 423 police recruits in the Volta Regional Police Training School in Ho.

A key component of the training the recruits went through was “Child Friendly Policing”, an initiative the Police Service adopted recently.

Mr Agblor said in view of the transformation agenda, the Service had identified five thematic areas to develop for re-positioning of the Service.

The areas include the overhauling of its Criminal Investigations Department, strengthening Community Policing, and professionalising the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau.

Mr Agblor asked the recruits to apply knowledge acquired from training in prompt response to duty, and to develop a strong will to resist temptations.

“You will, during such moments be expected to be resilient, honest, and exercise good judgement to win the trust and confidence of the public as well as the Ghana Police Service,” he stated.

Mr Agblor advised them against being over enthusiastic and reminded them of the public’s expectations of maturity, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

He said the State, as part of its efforts to fight crime, availed ample resources in training efficient personnel for the Service, and charged them to justify the investments by delivering on their mandate.

Mr Agblor bemoaned recent attacks on police personnel by criminals and expressed gratitude to the personnel for exercising restraint during such attacks and during investigations of the occurrences.

He however warned all criminal-minded persons that Commanders had been directed to deal ruthlessly with individuals, or groups who attack police personnel at their posts, and stations.

He said the Service was more energised and committed than ever to its constitutional responsibilities.

Mr Agblor asked members of the public to continue to volunteer credible information to enable the Service combat crime effectively.

He gave the assurance of full professionalism in dealing with informants.

Mr Wiafe-Akenteng Buahen was awarded a Baton of Honour, and a citation for being the overall best recruit.
