Ghana Red Cross Society presents relief items to flood victims

Agona Swedru, July 12, GNA - The Ghana Red Cross Society on Saturday presented a number of relief items worth GH¢104,000 to the Agona Swedru and Agona Nyakrom flood victims. The items include bags of rice, rubber buckets, cooking oil, blankets and soap.

Mr Kofi Addo, Secretary General of the Ghana Red Cross Society, said the donation had been necessary after the society had accessed the situation in the two affected towns. He said although various organizations and philanthropists had donated towards the up-keep of the victims, more assistance was still needed.

Over 2,300 households affected by the floods at Agona Swedru are currently being camped at Swedru Town Hall, Bomdwen Hotel, Ahmmadiyya Primary and JSS and the Presbyterian Primary and JSS. Mr Addo said there was the need to improve water supply, food and sanitation at the camps to avoid outbreak of diseases considering the huge number of people grouped together at the camps. The Secretary General expressed the hope that the items would go a long way to relieve the victims of their suffering.

Mr Amadu Musah, Assemblyman for Sabu Zongo, who received the items on behalf of the victims, thanked the society for their kind gesture. He appealed to the organizations, individuals, philanthropists, government and well-to-do Ghanaians wishing to donate to the victims to convert some into cash to enable them to get money some basic items they needed. 12 July 10
