Ghana Scores First On NEPAD

Ghana has been applauded for being the first on the continent to appoint a full time Minister to administer activities of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).

Dr. Francis Appiah, National Coordinator of NEPAD Ghana, who disclosed this at a news conference in Accra last Friday, said this was one of the major points that came out of the just-ended three-day NEPAD Africa Civil Society Forum at Elimina.

The creation of the Ministry, he stressed has concretized the country’s positive commitment to this widely accepted African initiative, which seeks to find solutions to the problems of the continent and its leaders.

This he said therefore calls for the media to play the role of helping to propagate the activities of NEPAD, citing the ignorance of NEPAD and its activities among Ghanaians as unacceptable.

Dr. Appiah said as a starter, his office in collaboration with the Ministry is launching a countrywide educational programme beginning with five districts in the North to propagate NEPAD.
