The Ghana Scout Association [GSA] has added its voice to the call to ensure a post election violence free environment in the country.
The Association believed a Ghana free of violence, tension, chaos and anarchy is needed to ensure a rapid and sustainable socio economic development.
Briefing pressmen in Accra, the GSA Chief Commissioner, Mr. Gregory Yaw Manful bemoans the ill fated incidents that characterized the aftermath of the December elections after the declaration of the election results by the Electoral Commission [EC] of Ghana.
What is worrying in these situations are the tensions that are developing and the fact that some party foot soldiers are allegedly taking matters into their own hands and harming innocent civilians who are going about with their normal businesses, he added.
He urged the winning party supporters to jubilate in moderation devoid of any provocation to the other side so as to maintain the peace and stability being enjoyed in Ghana prior to the General Elections.
He further urged the leadership and supporters of opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP] to exercise maximum restraint in their quest to seeking redress through the Supreme Court of judicature.
The interest of his outfit he said is to promote the developmental agenda of Ghana where opportunities and avenues are created specifically for young people to have jobs, create better lives for themselves and families as well as propel Ghana to a better height.
‘’ How can we achieve this if there is no peace for people to move about freely to work? He asked.
Commissioner Gregory Manful was hopeful all Ghanaians adhere to the several peace calls by Civil Society Groups, the National Peace Council, and the Kumasi Peace Declaration among others all of which were to ensure that both the pre and post election environments remain stable, peace and calm.
The GSA Chief further appealed to Political leaders and supporters to eschew from politics of personality attacks and violence and rather dwell on issues based politics that will develop the nation.
He declared the Association’s preparedness in collaboration with other youth organizations’ to support the youth of Ghana to promote peace in their communities in their quest to create better and stable environments.
Mr. Gregory announced that they will organized a series of workshops, seminars and other related activities nationwide between January and March 2013, aimed at ensuring the youth of Ghana play key part in bringing lasting peace, for the country’s development and themselves.
‘’ Try to leave this world a little better than you found it and , when your turn comes to die, you can die happy feeling that at any rate you have not wasted your time but have done your best’’ he stated.
