The head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Otto Addo, has said that he holds fellow Ghanaian and coach of Sudan, Kwasi Appiah, in high esteem ahead of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers game on October 11, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He noted that Appiah’s achievements as a footballer and a coach have been impressive and looks forward to meeting his side in the AFCON qualifying game.

Addo indicated that his focus is to prepare the Black Stars team in the best possible way to emerge victorious against Sudan, rather than giving priority to one individual.

“I have big respect for Kwasi Appiah, for what he has achieved as a player, but also as a coach for Ghana. I'm looking forward to this game, but to be honest, for me, it doesn't matter who's on the other side. We're looking at our team.

"We're trying to prepare ourselves as best as possible and that's the most important thing for us. And I think in this game, very much, it's mostly about us, our attitude towards the game, and this is what we're looking at,” he said while announcing the Black Stars squad at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) premises on October 4, 2024.

The Black Stars' doubleheader against Sudan will have a major impact on Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON after failing to win their first two games.

Ghana occupies the third position with one point in Group F of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers after two matches.

Angola is leading the group with six points, followed by Sudan with three points, while Niger lies at the bottom with one point.
