Accra, (Greater Accra) 10 Nov. The Ghana Telecom (GT) yesterday launched its corporate logo which depicts the vision of the company's commitment to quality service. The emblem has the acronym 'GT' in blue and gold background. The blue is the traditional colour of the telecommunication industry worldwide; the gold, being the richest colour in the world and the brightest in Ghana's national flag, symbolises the country's wealth. It has concentric lines spreading outward to represent the expansion of communication coverage and GT's corporate vision of being a regional model. Launching the logo, Commander P. M. G. Griffiths, Deputy Minister of Communications, said Ghana is in dire need for rapid infrastructural development including telecommunication for both rural and urban communities so that they could catch up with the fast growing economies of the world. Commander Griffiths said as the world approaches the next millenium it is imperative that the nation should acquire that facility ''otherwise our country would face the certainty of being truly abandoned as a passive observer of global development and competitiveness''. Cdr. Griffiths said both the government and GT recognises that telecommunication in Ghana remains below par in all aspects, from the basic infrastructure to its products and services. He said without an efficient telecommunication systems with global connections , ''we cannot hope to achieve the significant development envisaged in Ghana's vision 2020''. Cdr. Griffiths said GT is a privatised entity and everyone is realising the benefit of privatisation. With proper macro planning, the privatisation policy will push national productivity to a higher level and spur economic growth further. The deputy minister said the National Communication Authority (NCA) under the Ministry will be responsible for protecting consumers' interests, public safety from monopoly power as well as the healthy development of the industry. Mr. Adnan Rofiee, Managing Director of Ghana Telecom, said the new corporate logo goes with new services including the Abbreviated Dialling, the Call Transfer and the Wake-up call.
